President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
The president explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
“She was the individual that teachers wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum processing and halt issuing visas to owners of travel documents.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general told a news show that she also intended to visit the family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
