Recent court documents confirm that JP Morgan submitted a suspicious activity report in 2019 alerting government regulators about over $1 billion in transactions connected to Jeffrey Epstein that were potentially connected to trafficking activities.
The banking giant flagged approximately 4,700 transactions totaling more than $1 billion that appeared potentially connected to human trafficking reports concerning the financier, according to the recently unsealed court documents.
The report was submitted just weeks after Epstein's death in a New York jail cell and also highlighted electronic payments made by the financier to financial institutions in Russia.
The suspicious activity report identified several well-known corporate leaders and individuals in connection with the questionable financial activities, such as:
This documentation particularly noted $65 million in wire transfers from the mid-2000s that appeared to move between various financial institutions linked to the Wexner-controlled entities.
JP Morgan's long-standing association with Epstein has become a source of major judicial examination and political attention.
The unsealed documents were included in legal proceedings from 2023 initiated by the US Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned a private island and conducted most of his monetary operations.
Additionally, women who were trafficked by the financier also participated in the legal action, which JP Morgan eventually settled.
A spokesperson for the bank stated that the publication of the suspicious activity reports shows the institution had alerted regulators about the financier as required.
The spokesperson emphasized: "These reports verify what was previously suspected: the bank filed SARs about the financier early on, and specifically when it exited him from the bank in 2013 â and consistently between 2013 and 2019, as required."
The representative continued: "It does not appear that federal authorities or investigative agencies acted on those SARs for an extended period."
Spokespeople for the identified persons have provided different statements regarding their inclusion in the report:
It is important to note, not one of the persons named in the report have been faced criminal charges in relation to Epstein.
