The direst possible consequences of the climate crisis for the UK have been mapped by scientists, including a searing 4C jump in mean temperatures to a two-metre increase in ocean levels. An alternative projection envisions a plunge of 6C in temperatures following the failure of key Atlantic Ocean currents, which would profoundly upset food production and energy demand.
