It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,â stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
âExcept perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,â she went on. âI hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.â
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting âsix sevenâ â inspired by a hip-hop line â often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year.
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the ceremony's official statement.
âThis swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,â said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
âIt represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.â
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
